Just like in other parts of the world (e.g. Switzerland, Canada) the region of Catalonia, whose capital is Barcelona, has two official languages: Spanish (Castilian) and Catalan. People grow up being perfectly bilingual. This might be another reason why the "Barcelonins" are so open-minded and gentle to their visitors. This might also be a reason why so many foreigners come to Barcelona and study in one of the four universities - or others who decide to have their residence in this marvellous city with its balanced and moderate climate all the year round. Barcelona is famous for its beautiful architecture, for its beaches and for one of the best football teams in the world. Furthermore, its proximity to the Pyrenees makes Barcelona a prime spot for winter sports, which are only a 2-hour drive from the city centre.
