Years ago the colourfully painted concrete wall divided the two German states - BRD and GDR and was symbolic for the division of the world during the cold war. However since 1989 and the fall of the wall, Berlin has developed rapidly and became a true metropolis, a city and capital. The impressive new government district with the "new" Reichstag and dome designed by Sir Norman Foster, to the many trendy boutiques and lovingly restored buildings in Prenzlauer Berg. The newly erected Memorial to the victims of the Holocaust, Potsdamer Platz, the Museum Island all give Berlin its new face and flair. The Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie are today places where friends from all over the world meet and come together. Come to Berlin, visit the German capital, experience and learn the language and the people who speak it.
